Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented individual who consistently takes initiative for our Municipal Ordinance Specialist position. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local ordinances, building codes, zoning regulations, and environmental laws. Our Municipal clients look to use to assist in digitizing, updating, and organizing their codes to continue pursuing safe and clean communities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to neighborhood development, public health, and environmental sustainability through diligent regulatory oversight and effective communication. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ordinance Cataloging & Digitization Review and organize existing municipal ordinances, resolutions, amendments, and related documents. Catalog ordinances according to subject matter, ordinance number, date, and other applicable classifications. Digitize historical and current municipal records and maintain organized electronic files. Identify duplicate, outdated, superseded, or missing ordinance documents. Maintain accurate records of ordinance histories and amendments. Assist with establishing consistent naming, numbering, filing, and indexing systems for municipal documents. Ordinance Book Maintenance Update municipal ordinance books to incorporate newly adopted ordinances and amendments. Prepare replacement pages, supplements, indexes, and other materials necessary to maintain current ordinance books. Verify that amendments and revisions are properly incorporated into existing ordinances. Maintain records of ordinance updates and effective dates. Assist with the preparation and organization of codified municipal ordinance books. Municipal Ordinance Research Research existing municipal ordinances and related regulations. Compare current ordinances with proposed language, model ordinances, and applicable state requirements. Identify areas where municipal ordinances may be outdated, incomplete, inconsistent, or in need of revision. Assist staff in researching ordinance requirements for specific municipal issues. Maintain research files and reference materials related to municipal regulations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, planning, government, legal studies, or a related field preferred but not necessary. Strong organizational and document-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to read, interpret, and organize technical or regulatory documents. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic document management systems. Ability to conduct internet-based and document-based research. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Professional demeanor and ability to communicate effectively with municipal officials and clients. Previous experience with municipal government, zoning, planning, codes, legal documents, or ordinance administration is preferred but not required.
