Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Schedule:
Friday, Saturday, and one flex day that is not Wednesday. The Foster Coordinator is an integral part of our mission by promoting the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education, and example. This position is a vital part of our Shelter. The Foster Coordinator must be self-motivated, a team player, dependable, able to multitask, and enjoy caring for animals! The Foster Coordinator works hands-on with resident animals, customers, the community, and foster heroes and must always be professional.
This position is part-time:
Either 7AM to 6PM or 8AM to 5PM Friday, Saturday, and one flex day not Wednesday
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
 Support Dorchester Paws in daily functions including the general care and maintenance of the facility and all animals.  Calling, emailing and/or texting potential fosters to care for the animals in need.  Scheduling foster health checkups and making sure they all have spay/neuter surgery dates.  Answering questions about the foster program or about the animals the foster has in their home.  Maintain accurate animal records by entering data to administration system, taking animal photos, and tracking animal inventories.  Preparing foster kits and training new foster heroes. Maintaining the foster supply shelf & reporting needs to the Medical & Foster Manager.  Status reporting to the Medical & Foster Manager.  Collect, prepare, maintain and record animal information in Shelterluv when needed  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other organizations, and the general public.  Assist other staff members when needed and perform other duties as assigned.  Join the rotation on the Foster Emergency Line.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job is mostly an indoor job. This job requires sitting at a computer and using the phone frequently. You will also be walking throughout the shelter frequently. This role requires regular and extended standing, walking, as well as sitting at a computer. This role requires flexibility and the ability to stand, lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or stand as necessary. This position also requires frequent lifting or moving of objects or materials up to 50lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS
 Ability to work well with cats, dogs, and people.  Previous experience with animals is a PLUS!  Possess reliable transportation to/from work.  Possess a minimum of a high school degree or equivalent.  One year prior experience working in a shelter, vet office, or animal hospital is a PLUS!  This position requires many detailed tasks and multi-tasking abilities. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment  Ability to work during the week as well as weekends and holidays.  Ability to stand for long periods of time.  Ability to communicate well with staff and management on tasks that need to be done.  Ability to communicate well with the community and foster heroes.  Ability to lead by example and keep good attendance.  Ability to stay organized.  Ability to manage phone calls, email, the foster Facebook page and a foster calendar.
