POSITION OVERVIEW

The Foster Coordinator helps reduce the number of animals in the shelter and increase successful live outcomes for more animals in the community by engaging community members, recruiting new foster parents, and assisting foster families in finding outcomes for their foster pets. Foster coordinators are a resource for foster parents for basic pet care and behavior to ensure that the foster families provide safe temporary homes for shelter animals while they await adoption or rescue opportunities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Communicate daily with other departments for any new pets in need of foster placement Send out pleas for pets needing foster placement via social media, and email the active foster caregivers Coordinate foster placement with foster families and attend to those pet pickups Correspond with current fosters, reply to emails, and answer phone calls promptly Build positive relationships with foster parents from diverse backgrounds and maintain relationships for foster retention Set healthcare appointments for animals in the foster program for treatments according to shelter policy, and attend those medical appointments Conduct animal inventory of all pets in the foster program Explore positive outcome opportunities with the adoptions and rescue departments to help pets continuously flow through the foster program Reach out to foster families regularly for updates Troubleshoot health, basic care, and behavior problems for foster families as a resource, providing positive and humane pet solutions to aid the foster parent in caring for them Manage the PVAS Foster Facebook page and correspondence Achieve weekly pet placement goals established by the Community Engagement Manager Continuously further education on pet health, pet care, and expanding shelter foster programs Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications At least one year of experience working in an animal shelter or other related agency. Demonstrated experience in program implementation and management, as well as providing customer service and/or case management. Working knowledge of dog and cat handling and behavior, including pets with challenging temperaments and with severe health conditions. Ability to handle pets safely and with kindness always, without exception. Must possess and maintain a current, valid Texas Driver's License and be able to drive a transport vehicle. Skills and Requirements Must be able to work in a high-volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment. Being self-motivated, great attitude, and being team-oriented are a must. Must have the ability to render quick, responsible decisions under stressful circumstances. Knowledge and understanding of herd management practices and principles as they apply to shelter health. Must be able to use and understand shelter/medical software programs and other basic equipment associated with day-to-day operations. Experience with ShelterLuv is a plus. Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships and communications with staff, volunteers, animal control officers, and the general public. Ability to help establish and maintain best practices regarding sanitation, health, and animal well-being

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to odors or airborne particles including animal fur and toxic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Frequent driving between facilities is required as well as consistent availability after-hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
