$15.00 per hour
Hours:
Up to 29 hours per week Position Summary The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for helping maintain the health, safety, and appearance of the community by enforcing municipal ordinances and applicable state laws. This position performs inspections, investigates complaints, educates property owners and residents regarding code requirements, and works toward voluntary compliance whenever possible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and public properties for compliance with city ordinances.
Investigate complaints related to:
High grass and weeds Junk, trash, and debris Abandoned or inoperable vehicles Unsafe structures Illegal dumping Nuisance conditions Other violations of city ordinances Issue notices of violation, warnings, citations, or other enforcement documents as authorized. Maintain detailed inspection reports, photographs, and case files. Re-inspect properties to verify compliance. Meet with property owners, tenants, contractors, and citizens to explain applicable ordinances and compliance requirements. Attend municipal court proceedings when required. Coordinate with other city departments regarding enforcement matters. Prepare periodic reports regarding enforcement activities. Respond professionally to citizen inquiries and complaints. Perform other duties as assigned by the City Administrator. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to communicate effectively with the public in person and in writing. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email. Ability to interpret and apply municipal ordinances and regulations. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in code enforcement, law enforcement, construction, building inspection, property maintenance, or a related field. Knowledge of Texas municipal government operations. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of municipal ordinances and property maintenance standards. Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to maintain accurate records. Good judgment and professionalism. Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple cases. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Physical Requirements Frequently walk over uneven terrain. Stand, bend, stoop, climb, and lift up to 30 pounds. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind. Operate a vehicle safely. Work Schedule This is a part-time position working up to 29 hours per week . Work hours may vary based on departmental needs and may occasionally include early mornings, evenings, or weekends for inspections or special enforcement activities.
