General Description:
The Mediator is responsible for working with the Lead Mediator to provide mediation services to students and staff district-wide. The Mediator is also responsible in assisting the Lead Mediator to reach out to students, parents, teachers and other school personnel and provide training in the techniques of conflict mediation.
Qualifications:
Mediation Certificate required. Must be a trained mediator Bachelor's degree in Conflict resolution, Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred Specific coursework/training in conflict resolution and/or mediation Bilingual ability desirable Ability to function independently Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects is essential Proven communication and effective interpersonal skills required Should demonstrate leadership qualities and effective consensus skills
Responsibilities:
Assist in processing mediation requests/referrals; scheduling mediations, coordinating and conducting mediation sessions, monitoring agreements, maintaining records, and issuing reports on services Oversee and support peer mediators during mediation sessions Assist in creating and delivering presentations regarding mediation and conflict resolution In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, provide individual and small group services relative to mediation In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, conduct and share research studies which determine the nature of conflicts and analyze factors attitudes and morale Assist in the exploration of grant application Along with the Lead Mediator, serve as a resource for Somerville Public Schools crisis situations and help coordinate professional mediator response as needed In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, support K-12 mediation initiatives, and oversee peer mediation programming at SPS In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, coordinate with community agencies and others with related responsibilities Perform other duties as may.be assigned
Terms of Employment:
40 hours per week 209 days (July - June) Scheduled school year and additional days before & after the school year Non-union position Reports to: Lead Mediator, Director of Student Services, and High School Principal
