This position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with landlords across Oklahoma City.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend eviction court daily in Oklahoma County. Mediate eviction cases at court at the discretion of the Judge. Foster positive relationships with tenants, landlords, attorneys, judges, court staff, and community partners. Conduct outreach to identified landlords, building partnerships for pre-filing mediation and landlord enrichment and education opportunities. Stay informed on landlord-tenant law, services, and benefits available to clients; partner organizations' services; best practices in trauma-informed care; and legal and funding requirements. Participate in volunteer, fundraising, or community service opportunities requested by or benefiting Mental Health Association programs. Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or other supervisory or executive staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field strongly preferred. Familiarity with the court and legal system strongly preferred. Familiarity with local housing and eviction law and statutes. Court-Approved Civil Mediator, or ability and willingness to be trained as a Court-Approved Civil Mediator. Ability to establish and maintain appropriate and productive professional relationships with court officials, landlords, program participants, and partner agencies. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Extensive knowledge of Oklahoma City housing. Experience working with homeless or at-risk populations. Possess clean MVR and valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed in climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Daily local travel is required; must have reliable transportation. Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time. Work may include climbing stairs, occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects up to 20 pounds such as files with documents, and computer printouts. Work utilizes hearing and speech in order to converse clearly with customers. Position is subject to repetitive motion injury. Ability to safely and properly use office equipment.
