Job Description

Clear Creek County, Colorado seeks a Deputy Coroner I to support compassionate, professional death investigations in our central Rocky Mountain communities. Reporting to the Coroner, this entry-level role assists at death scenes, documents findings, preserves evidence, and coordinates with law enforcement, EMS, and medical providers. The Deputy Coroner I prepares detailed reports, follows state law and medicolegal standards, and helps ensure accurate determinations of cause and manner of death. The position includes on-call shifts, community interaction, and collaborative work in a public-service, integrity-driven environment. Responsibilities Respond to death scenes within Clear Creek County to assist with investigations Document and preserve evidence, photographs, and notes in accordance with protocol Coordinate with law enforcement, EMS, and medical personnel on death investigations Assist with identification of decedents and notification support for next of kin Prepare accurate, timely investigative and administrative reports Follow state statutes, county policies, and medicolegal standards Support chain-of-custody, transport, and handling of remains Participate in on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays Required Skills Death investigation procedures Crime scene documentation Evidence handling and chain-of-custody Report writing and case documentation Knowledge of anatomy and physiology Knowledge of Colorado death statutes and medicolegal standards Collaboration with law enforcement and EMSUse of basic forensic and photography equipment Data entry and case management systems Crisis and trauma-informed communication
