Until Filled The Kendall County Coroner's Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Coroner's Assistant (PRN) . Position Summary Under the direction of the Forensic Services Manager, the Coroner's Assistant (PRN) assists Deputy Coroners with field death investigations and supports postmortem examinations (autopsies) at the Kendall County Forensic Science Center.
Duties & Responsibilities Scene Support :
Respond to death scenes to assist investigators with moving/lifting decedents, transporting decedents, and procuring equipment.
Morgue Operations:
Assist with property/body intake, inventory of personal property, and complete computerized database entries.
Health & Safety:
Clean and sanitize the morgue and autopsy suite in compliance with safety procedures.
Family Support:
Interact compassionately with next-of-kin and families on scene at the direction of sworn personnel.
Work Schedule & Call Requirements:
General Call-Out:
Must be available to respond to short-notice or no-notice call outs to support 24/7 operations. ( No-notice call outs receive a minimum of 4 hours of compensation )
On-Call Commitment:
Requires taking a minimum of one weekend of on-call duty per month . Compensation & Pay Progression Scale The Kendall County Coroner's Office utilizes a fixed wage scale to reward longevity and experience: 0-1

$15.00/Hour 1-2
Years:
$20.00/Hour 2-5
Years:
Structured annual increases from $21.00/Hour to $23.00/Hour 5+
Years:
$25.00/Hour Assistants who respond to after-hours call outs receive a minimum of 4-hours of compensation. Assistants who demonstrate strong performance are eligible for promotion to sworn positions including Deputy Coroner ($25.00•35.00/Hour) and Senior Deputy Coroner ($30.00•40.00/Hour) as positions become available. This position receives annual Personal Leave in accordance with the Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLAWA). This position does not receive heath insurance benefits and is not eligible for contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) Pension Plan.
Minimum Qualifications Education Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
License Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a current, valid Driver's License and good driving record.
Residency Requirements:
Must reside within Kendall County or the approved residency boundaries covering portions of Kane, Will, Grundy, LaSalle, DeKalb, or DuPage counties within 6 months of hire (see the residency requirements policy HERE ).
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift, carry, drag, or move 200lbs or more with assistance, and maintain composure under highly stressful, emotional, and graphic conditions.
