Job Overview The Deputy Jailer/Correctional Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining safety and security within correctional facilities. This position involves transporting inmates to other county jails, supervising inmates, enforcing rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and inmates. The ideal candidate will possess strong conflict management skills, be able to respond effectively in emergency situations, and demonstrate a commitment to upholding the law. Responsibilities Supervise the daily activities of inmates to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations. Conduct regular inspections of the facility, including monitoring systems to identify potential security threats. Respond promptly to emergencies, utilizing CPR and first aid skills as necessary. Manage conflicts between inmates effectively, employing de-escalation techniques when required. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inmate behavior, incidents, and daily activities. Collaborate with law enforcement personnel and other staff members to ensure a secure environment. Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance skills in areas such as report writing and emergency response. Qualifications Must be a minimum of 21 years old when you apply. High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in law enforcement or related fields are preferred. Previous experience in a military or law enforcement setting is advantageous. Strong observational skills with the ability to assess situations quickly and accurately. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective report writing and interaction with inmates and staff. Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and composure. This position requires dedication to public safety and the ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
