Stokes County Jail - Detention Officer - Full Time

Job Description

•NEW
STARTING PAY
- $45,442.00•Television has given the job of being a detention officer a bad rap. Understand working in a jail is nothing like what TV shows. We will allow you, once a background is completed, to sit in the jail and observe the operations before you make your final decision. We want to make sure you will be successful in this career. As with any professional career, it becomes what you make of it with a positive attitude. We have the best officers in the state to work with!! We are a smaller facility than most around us and focus on knowing our officers and you are not just a number. As a detention officer you will receive paid on the job training. You will also receive the following benefits: Paid health insurance, paid dental insurance, 401K, life insurance, tuition education assistance, paid time off, accumulate sick time, and be enrolled in the local government retirement system. Working in the jail is nothing like Hollywood has made it out to be. Task include, serving meals, making rounds to check on inmates, taking inmates to medical appointments with the jail's medical staff, receiving new inmates and discharging inmates that have completed their sentence. At times, the job can be challenging but also comes with its rewards as you have the chance to help those that may be at their worst. We work 12 hour permanent shifts (no rotating day and night). Our work schedule is one week you work Monday, Tuesday off Wednesday, Thursday, work Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Then the next week is just the opposite where you only work Wednesday and Thursday and off the other 5 days. This gives our detention officers plenty of time off with family. This is a 24/7 operation with a set schedule. You can plan ahead for your days off, but are expected to be at work during your scheduled shift. If you think this is for you, give us a call at 336-593-8787. An applicant must meet the following conditions: Applicant must be 20 years of age or older with a high school diploma or GED Possess a valid driver's license. Must be a U.S citizen. Have no serious convictions of crimes. Must complete the application process which includes being fingerprinted and a background investigation. Must be able to operate effectively in unpredictable high stress situations. Be willing to work days, nights, and holidays. Requires the employee to report to duty in all types of natural or manmade situations. Must be physically able to perform job duties. A physical and drug screen will be required to be completed during the application process. If you are interested in starting your career in law enforcement, please contact Lt. Wade White with the Sheriff's Office at 336-593-2485 or email him at wwhite@co.stokes.nc.us.
