Job Description

Overview The Columbus County Sheriff's Office is seeking individuals interested in serving as Detention Officers within the Columbus County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. Detention Officers typically work only 14 days a month on 12-hour shifts. Overtime opportunities are also available within the detention center. Responsibilities Supervise inmate activities and ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations. Conduct regular inspections of facilities and inmate living areas to maintain safety standards. Monitor CCTV systems to observe inmate behavior and detect any potential security threats. Prepare detailed reports on incidents, inmate behavior, and daily activities. Respond to emergencies and manage conflicts effectively using de-escalation techniques. Enforce disciplinary actions when necessary while maintaining professionalism. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies as needed during incidents or investigations. Requirements Must be at least 20 years old on first day of work. Must be a citizen of the United States. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess or be able to possess a North Carolina driver's license. Detention Officers may live in or outside of the county with no restrictions. Must not have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor. No Giglio issues Other in-house requirements will be discussed with potential applicants by the agency recruiter.
