Jailer-Part-Time Job Summary:

Responsible for the care, custody, control, and security of individuals who have been arrested and are being held in a city or municipal jail. Ensures the safety and well-being of inmates, staff, and visitors while following department policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

Essential Job Duties:

Receive, book, fingerprint, photograph, and process individuals being placed into custody.

Conduct searches of inmates and their personal property and inventory/store personal belongings.

Monitor inmates and jail facilities through direct observation, security cameras, and regular cell checks.

Maintain the safety, security, and orderly operation of the jail.

Conduct inmate counts and document inmate activities.

Transport inmates to and from court, medical appointments, or other authorized locations when assigned.

Respond to emergencies, disturbances, fights, or medical situations within the detention facility.

Administer or assist with inmate meals, hygiene needs, and other authorized services.

Prepare and maintain accurate booking records, reports, logs, and other required documentation.

Communicate with police officers, court personnel, medical staff, attorneys, and other agencies as needed.

Ensure inmates are released according to proper procedures and court orders.

Follow all department policies, safety procedures, and state and local laws.

Skills and Qualifications:

Ability to maintain security and remain calm in stressful or emergency situations.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain confidential records.

Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to follow detailed policies, procedures, and instructions.

Physical ability to perform job duties, including standing, walking, and responding quickly to emergencies.

Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Typical Requirements:

High school diploma or GED.

Valid driver's license.

Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Must meet any applicable local, state, or departmental training requirements.
