About This Job As a Jail Officer, you play a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and order of our correctional facility. You directly impact the lives of inmates and staff by upholding professional standards and ensuring a secure environment. This position requires vigilance, composure, and a commitment to public safety, serving as a frontline guardian within the justice system. You contribute significantly to the smooth operation of daily activities and the overall well-being of the institution. Job Duties and Responsibilities The Jail Officer performs essential duties that uphold correctional standards and ensure facility security.
You:
Monitors and supervises inmates within housing units, during recreation, and throughout daily activities, ensuring their safety and adherence to facility rules. Enforces all correctional procedures, policies, and regulations consistently and fairly to maintain discipline and order. Conducts regular security operations, including patrols, searches for contraband, and inspections of cells and common areas. Responds to inmate conflicts and utilizes de-escalation techniques to resolve disputes peacefully and prevent escalation. Applies conflict resolution strategies to mediate disagreements and foster a stable environment. Acts swiftly and decisively during emergency response situations, including disturbances, medical emergencies, or facility breaches. Provides immediate crisis intervention for inmates experiencing emotional or psychological distress. Prepares clear, concise, and accurate report writing on incidents, observations, and daily activities. Ensures strict policy adherence to all institutional guidelines, state, and federal laws. Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in observing inmate behavior, facility conditions, and potential security risks. Required Qualifications To satisfactorily accomplish the functions of this job, you must meet the following qualifications: Education Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Experience No prior experience in corrections is required ; we provide comprehensive training. Knowledge/Skills Demonstrates effective techniques for inmate supervision . Applies comprehensive knowledge of correctional procedures . Executes robust security operations . Utilizes proven de-escalation tactics. Employs effective conflict resolution strategies. Performs swift and decisive emergency response actions. Provides critical crisis intervention . Produces clear and accurate report writing . Ensures strict policy adherence . Maintains exceptional attention to detail . Physical Requirements/Work Conditions Stands and walks for extended periods. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Responds physically to emergency situations, which may include restraining individuals. Works in a secure, structured environment that can be demanding and stressful. Maintains mental alertness and situational awareness at all times.
