Job Title:
Forensic Lab Technician Job Description The specimen accessioning team is actively involved in the pre-analytical and post-analytical processes of testing. In this role, you will be responsible for receiving incoming samples, logging them into a computer, and preparing the samples for handoff to the lab. The post-analytical process includes sample storage and disposal. This position offers a great opportunity for those looking to start or grow a career in a laboratory environment. Responsibilities Meet couriers at the door to receive samples from across the USA and internationally, and begin the tracking process. Verify all samples have arrived, inspect for any damage, remove and dispose of packaging, and move samples for entry. Operate multiple computer software systems, remembering which apply to different samples. Verify names on samples match requisitions. Handle mostly urine samples, with some blood, serum, plasma, and body fluid samples. Create labels and label samples after entry into systems. Aliquot samples from one to two samples, centrifuge or freeze samples to stabilize if needed. Manage the workflow of sample maintenance after 3, 6, and 12 months in walk-in refrigerators and freezers. Essential Skills High School Diploma, with preference for some science coursework. Desire to advance within the laboratory setting. Intermediate computer, typing, and 10-key skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. High accuracy and attention to detail. Capacity to work in a fast-paced production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in lab environments, sample preparation, and specimen handling. Background in customer service, banking, or serving provides a solid skill set for this role. Phlebotomy skills are beneficial but not required. Work Environment This role is within a fast-paced, production-type laboratory environment, performing a vital component of medical laboratory science. You will work in an environment handling between 5,000-11,000 samples a day, primarily on the 2nd shift from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM, Tuesday through Saturday. Opportunities for career growth are available, including tuition reimbursement for qualifying degrees, and once employed full-time, employees can accrue up to 144 hours of vacation pay plus holidays. Dress code and attire are standard for a laboratory setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Saint Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.53 - $19.53/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
