Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job.
Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description Receives and prepares evidence and property seized by officers for storage and/or transport to lab for analysis. Secures and maintains long-term storage of evidence according to regulations, requirements, and standard operating procedures within the evidence room. Researches cases for court judgement or disposal authorization from proper authority. Releases and disposes of evidence/property following established federal, state, and local laws and department rules, regulations, polices, and procedures. Prepares and transports items of evidence requiring certified laboratory analysis to and from Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab. Serves as liaison between courts and officers. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent.
College coursework in criminal justice or similar field preferred. 1 to 3 years' experience. Licenses or Certifications Valid driver's license. International Association of Property and Evidence (IAPE) Certification within 6 months of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
Knowledge of:
Records management. Relevant laws and regulations pertaining to crime lab standards, disposal of evidence, and statute of limitations of crimes. Evidence handling procedures and court procedures relating to custody of evidence. Common business software applications such as Microsoft Office.
Skill in:
Organizing and maintaining attention to detail. Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience. Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data. Maintaining complex records.
Ability to:
Learn Police Department records system. Process and handle confidential information with discretion. Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Compile, organize, interpret, and communicate data and results concisely. Provide high levels of effective customer service. Render credible testimony. Work independently with minimal supervision. Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
