About Us Special Investigations & Consulting Group provides professional investigative services to attorneys who handle criminal cases before trial. Our investigators conduct scene canvassing, evidence collection, witness interviews, evidence review and analysis with comprehensive case documentation to ensure every client receives thorough, accurate, and unbiased investigative support. We are a growing agency that values integrity, professionalism, and independent problem-solvers who bring strong law-enforcement backgrounds to our team. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Criminal Investigator — ideally a police detective or law-enforcement professional — to assist with pre-trial criminal defense investigations. Candidates should have excellent report-writing skills, experience interviewing subjects and complainants, and familiarity with reviewing police reports, body-worn camera (BWC), and dash-cam footage. This position offers flexible hours (15-40 hours per week), with the option to work part-time or full-time, however a minimum of 15 hours per week is expected. Responsibilities Conduct detailed criminal investigations in support of defense cases Review police reports, BWC footage, and dash-cam videos Perform evidence review and analysis Canvass scenes to locate and interview witnesses Interview subjects, witnesses, and complainants Serve court documents as needed Make occasional court appearances and provide testimony Prepare comprehensive investigative reports for attorney review Work independently while meeting case deadlines Travel within Southeast Michigan as needed Qualifications Prior law-enforcement experience required (detective/investigator strongly preferred) Proven experience in criminal investigations Strong interviewing and communication skills Excellent report-writing and documentation abilities Ability to manage multiple cases independently Valid driver's license and reliable transportation No felony or high court misdemeanor convictions Ability to pass a background check
