GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The 63rd Judicial District Attorneys Office has an opening for a BPU Criminal Investigator for Val Verde, Kinney, and Terrell Counties to assist the border crimes prosecutors in the investigation and prosecution of felony crimes with a nexus to the Texas-Mexico border.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs pre-trial investigations and assists other investigators and prosecuting attorneys in the evaluation and preparation of cases for prosecution including conducting interviews, obtaining statements, documents and related evidence for use in court. 2. Examines court, police, public and governmental records needed for investigation; assists prosecuting attorneys in the preparation of evidence for trial by taking photographs, preparing diagrams, charts and other visual aids. 3. Prepares and serves subpoenas, prepares and executes arrests and search warrants; assists in locating and making arrangements for the appearance of witnesses to present evidence. 4. Testifies in court concerning evidence gathered in pre-trial investigations. 5. Acts as a liaison and coordinates investigative activities with law enforcement officers from various agencies. 6. May participate in meetings with community groups and other organizations relative to law enforcement functions and activities. 7. Conducts investigations of a wide variety of felony criminal cases. 8. Performs other duties as directed by the District Attorney. 9. Must be able to travel within the 63rd Judicial District and BPU region. 10. Provide security to BPU Assistant District Attorneys. 11. Performs related work as required. (Position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties, which may be performed or supervised.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Valid TCOLE Basic Certificate. Minimum 5 years of sworn criminal investigation experience in one or more LEOs (OR a combination of training, education, and experience that are equivalent to the above standard and that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Substantive and Procedural knowledge of pertinent areas of law: Texas CCP, Penal Code, Transportation Code. Ability to write with proper English construction and ability to receive analyze complicated facts and information.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understanding, teaching, and assisting improvement of law enforcement investigation techniques and procedures. Understanding, teaching, and assisting improvement of law enforcement interview techniques and procedures. Understanding, teaching, and assisting improvement of law enforcement search and arrest warrant preparation techniques and procedures. Knowledge and experience in use and care of firearms. Time management and teamwork attitude. Understanding and communication of leadership skills and habits.

SALARY AND HOURS OF WORK

Generally, 8 to 5 but trial work and travel sometimes require adjusted hours. Salary range, depending upon experience. Investigator IV, $70,000.00 - $74,000.00 Investigator V, $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 This position is a two-year term position which begins September of 2025 by a grant through the Office of the Governors Homeland Security Grant Division. There is a possibility the term will be renewed, subject to grant application and approval in the next cycle. All employees are employed at will, including this position.
