The purpose of this position is to participate in the traffic control and pedestrian school traffic direction in and around schools. Job duties consist of related traffic control duties. Successful performance in this position contributes to the safety of pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.
The following duties are normal for this classification. CROSSING ASSISTANCE
(85%) R eports reckless drivers and traffic violators. S tops traffic as needed to allow children to cross the streets. C ontrols vehicle and school bus traffic around school zones. S ignals to children when crossing the street is safe; observes children for safe and proper crossing. M ay change locations as traffic demands necessitate in order to remain in the vicinity of the greatest danger to children. M ay assist in traffic control and parking on school campuses.
PUBLIC RELATIONS AND RELATED DUTIES
(15%) W orks to establish a positive relationship with children and parents. T estifies in court as necessary, relating to traffic violations. P articipates in safety and educational classes. P erforms other related duties as requested. M ust be nineteen (19) years of age or older. M ust be able to work all designated times. M ust possess and maintain a valid driver's license. The following requirements are normal for this classification. Employees may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, extreme temperatures, hazardous situations, and inclement weather. J ob duties require the use of protective clothing such as reflective vests and gloves, etc. J ob duties require the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions. J ob duties require the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear. J ob duties require the use of both hands and arms. J ob candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress. J ob duties require regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
City of Prattville employees are required to obtain knowledge of the City of Prattville Policies and Procedures, and knowledge of their specific department rules, policies, and procedures. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION M
ust provide proof of your legal right to work in the United States. M ust live within a 30-mile radius of the Police Department Administrative Office. W illing to work the required hours. M ust be physically able to perform the duties of a school crossing guard. M ust be able to direct traffic with hand and arm motions. M ust be able to stand for periods of time in intersections during all types of weather. M ust submit to drug screenings for this safety sensitive position. M ust accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.
