Job Description
Lunch & Recess Monitor
Lowell Community Charter Public School (LCCPS) is seeking dependable, energetic, and student-centered individuals to serve as Lunch & Recess Monitors. Lunch & Recess Monitors play an important role in creating a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for students during lunch, recess, and other designated periods of the school day.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, is attentive and dependable, and can provide active supervision while encouraging positive behavior, appropriate social interactions, and safe play.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively supervise students during lunch, recess, and other assigned periods to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
Monitor student behavior and reinforce school expectations, routines, and standards of conduct.
Encourage positive social interactions, inclusion, good sportsmanship, and respectful behavior among students.
Engage positively with students and help create an enjoyable and welcoming lunch and recess experience.
Monitor playground and recreational areas and intervene when unsafe behavior or conditions are observed.
Assist students in resolving minor conflicts and seek assistance from appropriate school staff when additional intervention is necessary.
Remain alert to student behavior that may indicate a concern, including bullying, teasing, inappropriate language, distress, isolation, or unsafe behavior, and promptly report concerns to appropriate staff or administration.
Assist students during lunch as needed, including opening food containers and packages and supporting established cafeteria procedures.
Support orderly transitions to and from classrooms, the cafeteria, playgrounds, and other assigned areas.
Ensure students remain within designated supervised areas at all times.
Take appropriate precautions to protect student safety and immediately report injuries, hazards, or other safety concerns.
Respond appropriately to minor student injuries and promptly seek assistance from the school nurse or other designated staff when necessary.
Assist with maintaining the general cleanliness and organization of cafeteria and recess areas, including encouraging students to clean their spaces and properly dispose of trash.
Follow all school safety procedures, emergency protocols, schedules, and administrative directives.
Work collaboratively and professionally with teachers, administrators, food service staff, custodial staff, and other members of the school community.
Maintain the confidentiality of student, family, and staff information.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating patience, fairness, professionalism, and respect in all interactions with students.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by school administration.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, recreation, camp, youth program, or similar setting is preferred.
Ability to effectively supervise groups of children in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish positive relationships with students while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.
Dependable, punctual, patient, and able to respond calmly and appropriately to student needs and conflicts.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow direction from teachers and school administrators.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when recess is held outside.
Ability to remain standing and mobile for extended periods and respond quickly when student supervision or safety requires intervention.
