JOB DESCRIPTIONTITLE
Nutrition Services Lunch Monitor (Cafeteria)
SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nutrition Services, and working collaboratively with building administration, the Nutrition Services Lunch Monitor assists with the safe, orderly, and efficient operation of the school meal service program. This position supports nutrition service staff during meal periods by facilitating meal service flow, ensuring compliance with sanitation and food safety procedures, assisting students with meal access, and supporting accurate meal counting and accountability. This position supports the Nutrition Services operation during designated meal periods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meal Service Operations and Student AccessSupports efficient meal service by assisting with student flow through the serving line, helping students navigate trays, utensils, condiments, and meal components, and providing age-appropriate assistance to ensure safe and equitable access to reimbursable meals.
Sanitation, Food Safety, and Service EnvironmentAssists with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in dining, tray return, and waste disposal areas during meal service. Encourages proper disposal practices, identifies spills or food safety concerns, and supports compliance with food safety and sanitation procedures.
Meal Accountability and Program ComplianceSupports an orderly point of service to assist food service staff with accurate meal counting and claiming. Observes meal service to ensure students exit the line with a reimbursable meal, reports operational or equipment concerns related to meal service, and follows all applicable nutrition service policies and state and federal program requirements.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of School Nutrition or other authorized district or school administrators, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience working in a school, or child-centered environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to follow nutrition service procedures and sanitation expectations. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with students and staff. Ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently in a fast-paced meal service environment. Ability to work collaboratively with nutrition service personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to stand or walk for extended periods, bend, reach, and lift items up to 20 pounds. The employee must be able to assist with tray handling and maintain visibility of service and dining areas during meal periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in the cafeteria during scheduled meal service periods. The environment is typically moderate to high in noise during service times. Duties are limited to areas directly associated with school meal service
HOURS:
This position is for all full school days from the hours of 11:30 am to 1:30pm. On half days this position will work from 11:15am -11:45am.
