JOB TITLE
Crossing Guard
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION
Public Safety
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Directs actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school zone speed limits. This position is a non-supervisory classification and receives limited supervision, consulting with Field Supervisor in unusual situations.
REPORTS TO
Community Resources Officer
ESSENTIAL TASKS
Patrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from school. Directs the actions of children and traffic Escorts children across the street Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limit Places and removes caution signs and cones Cautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistles and/or hand signals
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITES
This job requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities. The work also requires standing for long periods of time. Candidates must be able to think and react independently to various situations.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITION
Works early mornings and afternoons (Specific hours are determined when assigned to school) On occasion may be required to work specific assignments Incumbent works ten (10) months out of the year
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Degree from an accredited high school, or
GED. SALARY RANGE
- This is a part-time position in a non-unionized environment with an hourly rate of $15.00
