Job Description

REPORTS TO
Chief of Police
POSITION PURPOSE
: Our Crossing Guards Crossing Guards play an important role in maintaining a safe environment. Crossing Guards for schools play an important role in upholding and educating students about pedestrian safety, making them integral to our school district's success.
EDUCATION LEVEL
: High School Graduate
SALARY RANGE
$15.50 per hour
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in providing excellent customer service
BASIC SKILLS
Efficiency and Organization Ability to communicate effectively and in a courteous and tactful manner in person Comprehension and logical thinking Ability to work within time constraints Possess discretion, confidentiality and use good judgement Ability to walk and/or stand for up to four (4) hours per day Ability to lift 25 pounds
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
: General Duties include; Strong observational skills to monitor traffic flow, pedestrian movement and overall surroundings Ability to clearly communicate instructions to children, parents and drivers, ensuring a safe crossing experience Capability to remain upright for extended periods, work outdoors in various weather conditions and respond quickly in emergencies Familiarity with local traffic laws, pedestrian safety rules and crossing guard protocols Proficiency with equipment such as stop signs, safety vests, hand signals and crossing aids Effective at managing interactions with children, parents and the community, promoting safe and respectful behavior Ability to think and remain calm under pressure to handle unexpected traffic or pedestrian situations effectively Punctuality and reliability to ensure consistent presence during designated school or crosswalk hours
SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and 2:45pm-4:15pm General Information The above statements are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by individual(s) assigned to this position.
