Position Details:
Salary Range:
$33.65 - $43.65 Hourly + Excellent Benefits 3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/12/27 Generally, salary placement is at the beginning of the salary range. Advanced placement may be granted depending on related education and experience.
NOTE :
The City recently completed a compensation study comparing its salary ranges with those of other local agencies. As a result, 87% of salary ranges will be adjusted upward at various intervals. As ranges are adjusted, job postings will be updated to reflect these changes.
Bilingual Stipend:
$50.00/month. This position is designated as bilingual, and the candidate must be fluent in Spanish or another foreign language to be eligible for selection. A language proficiency test will be administered to verify fluency.
Status:
Full‑time,
Regular Schedule:
9/80 work schedule with alternating Friday off
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental science or a related field.
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible environmental inspection, sampling, and enforcement experience.
Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate within one year of hire. Possession of a CWEA Grade II Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate is desirable. Why Simi Valley? Environmental Compliance Inspector Ideal Candidate:
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
College-level coursework in environmental science, biology, chemistry, water resource management, or a closely related field A broad understanding of environmental regulations, including water conservation and efficiency, stormwater, wastewater pretreatment, solid waste and recycling, and hazardous materials/waste The ability to interpret, explain, and apply federal, state, and local environmental and water policies, standards, rules, and regulations Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written Experience responding to complaints related to water waste, illicit discharges, odors, and hazardous materials in both public and private sectors The ability to handle difficult or unusual situations involving businesses, residents, and City personnel with professionalism and tact Defining characteristics such as dependability, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the ability to follow directions with transparency
