Air Quality Compliance Inspectors visit industrial facilities to complete Full Compliance Evaluations (FCEs) to verify compliance with air quality permits and both state and federal regulations. Inspectors carefully document potential violations, providing feedback to the regulated community and initiating the process of enforcement for those potential violations. Inspectors provide vital support for the Department's mission through the Compliance and Enforcement Section's work of protecting air quality for the State of New Mexico. How does it get done? Conduct assigned on-site inspections to evaluate compliance with air quality permits and regulations. Review facility data, records, permit conditions, and applicable regulations. Prepare detailed inspection reports, compliance checklists, and supporting documentation. Document potential violations and prepare evidence for enforcement actions. Communicate with regulated facilities and investigate public complaints related to air quality. Observe stack tests, conduct unmanned aerial system flights for optical gas imaging, and maintain required technical certifications. Complete or assist with special projects assigned by management. New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations Internal staff Ideal Candidate New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations Internal staff Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, Engineering, or Chemistry and four (4) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, animal science, natural science, biological science, physical science, air quality management, engineering, chemistry, geology, hazardous waste management, wildlife management, and/or water resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed under exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) with extensive personal computer and cell phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders. Must have ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and travel up to 30%.
