Maintenance Specialist II

Job Description

Maintain the fire station premises in a professional manner and with a clean appearance; Ensure that all fire/rescue equipment, apparatus, and emergency response vehicles are clean, properly maintained, in operational condition, and ready to use; Ensure all communications equipment is in operational condition and ready to use; Conduct scheduled inspections of all equipment and apparatus and maintain inspection records. Immediately notify the Fire Chief of any equipment deficiencies which cannot be corrected; Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and apparatus such as washing vehicles, running equipment, and checking fluid levels, and refueling; Perform minor maintenance and repairs that are within scope of practice and authorized by the Fire Chief. Complete applicable maintenance/repair records of all serviced equipment; Assist with annual NFPA requirements such as hose testing, pump testing, ladder testing, hydrant testing, and gas detector calibrations; Perform, or assist with monthly meter calibrations, quarterly air quality tests, and operate breathing air compressor to refill cascade system; Maintain air cascade system and refill SCBA cylinders; Facilitate third-party repairs when such repair requires special certifications, special tools, or is outside the skill or scope of practice of the employee. Inform the Fire Chief of the need for the repair, obtain proper approvals and purchase orders (when needed), deliver the vehicle or equipment to repair facility, and track all equipment out for repair for timely return to service; As directed by the Fire Chief, procure or contract for, in accordance with city policies and procedures, supplies, parts, and services required to correct equipment or apparatus malfunctions; Maintain current inventory of all equipment, tools, and supplies assigned to the Fire Department; General administrative tasks such as typing reports, data entry, answering the telephone, taking messages, responding to work related emails, distributing mail, etc.; Greet the general public, respond to inquiries, and provide information as needed; Promote a culture of safety in the workplace and the community. Lead fire station tours or assigned public education or relations events. Education and Training Minimum Must eligible to work in the United States and be at least 19 years of age. Must be a high school graduate or have obtained a GED. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E driver's license and demonstrate the ability to safely operate motor vehicles. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City of Indian Harbour Beach. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements including but not limited to application, background check, drug testing, and a medical physical. Experience performing related work, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job is required. Preferred Prior experience in emergency services is desired, but not required. Prior experience in fire service equipment maintenance and repairs is desired, but not required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.
