The purpose of this position is to perform and coordinate the department's fire prevention activities, including inspections, plan review, permitting, code enforcement, public education, and fire investigations. The Deputy Fire Marshal coordinates the department's company inspection program by assigning and tracking inspections, reviewing reports for accuracy and completeness, and providing technical guidance on fire code application. While this position does not directly supervise suppression personnel, it exercises functional authority over the department's fire prevention programs and company inspection process. Operational supervision remains within the established chain of command.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Inspects existing structures, construction sites, and remodeling projects for compliance with applicable fire and building codes; works with property owners and contractors to resolve compliance issues within the scope of assigned authority. Develops, coordinates, and manages the department's company inspection program, including assigning and tracking inspections completed by suppression personnel, ensuring consistency and quality across all shifts, and reviewing inspection reports for accuracy and completeness. Identifies trends, deficiencies, and recurring code violations; prepares compliance reports for command staff; and serves as the Fire Marshal's designee in the field for inspections, permitting activities, and investigations. Participates in inspections and testing of fire sprinkler systems and other fire prevention and protection systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Conducts voluntary and required residential fire and safety inspections. Reviews construction and development plans for compliance with fire codes and fire protection requirements. Issues warnings and citations for fire code violations at the direction or discretion of the Fire Chief. Maintains records, files, and data related to fire inspections and prevention activities; prepares and submits required reports and documentation. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Valid Texas Drivers License 30 Hours Accredited College hours or ability to obtain within one year TCFP Fire Inspector
I & II TCFP
Fire Plans Examiner or ability to obtain within six months TCFP Fire and Life Safety Educator or ability to obtain within one year
