The Chanhassen Fire Department is a combination fire department utilizing full-time and part-time, paid-on call firefighters to serve the residents and businesses within the City of Chanhassen. The department also responds to mutual aid requests from neighboring departments, typically for larger incidents such as structure fires, grass fires, and other emergency management events. Applicants will have the option to select either a part-time or a paid-on-call position.

SCHEDULE
Primary evening and weekend response comes from the paid-on call/part time staffing model, working duty crew shifts alongside career staff. The current paid-on call/part-time schedule primarily covers the following times: Monday-Friday, 6 PM-6 AM Saturday-Sunday, 6 AM-6 AM The department is currently staffed with 24 part-time firefighters and 11 full-time staff members who respond from one fire station and handle about 1,600 calls per year. Firefighters receive hourly pay for working duty crew shifts and responding to callbacks. Department training is paid at the same hourly rate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Work a minimum of 108 hours per quarter in a part time role or 66 hours quarterly in a paid-on call role. Attend mandatory training as assigned by the department (typically one or two Monday evenings per month). For paid on call positions, maintain residency within 15 minutes of the fire station (7610 Laredo Drive). Must successfully pass a pre-placement physical agility test, medical physical, and psychological assessment before beginning work.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must comply with organizational and departmental policies. Must possess a valid Class D driver's license. The city has determined that a fingerprint criminal background check is necessary for this position.
