Job Description

THE POSITION
Are you ready to make a real impact by protecting wildlands and nearby communities? As a Wildland Fire Responder with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), you will help detect wildfire threats and support emergency response efforts throughout the Pinchot Forest District in Lackawanna County. You will also take part in essential field operations that protect natural resources across the region. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on monitoring wildlands, responding to fire activity, and supporting fire management efforts throughout the Pinchot Forest District. As a Wildland Fire Responder, you will perform the following duties:
Wildfire Patrol:
Survey assigned areas to detect fire activity and identify wildfire locations
Fire Response:
Engage in suppression efforts and apply fire management tactics during incidents
Crew Leadership:
Guide employees and volunteers during wildfires and prescribed burns
Equipment Upkeep:
Maintain vehicles, tools, and communication equipment for response readiness
Training Support:
Assist in planning and delivering standard wildland fire trainings
Hazard Reduction:
Support efforts to identify and reduce wildfire risks in the district Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Days and shifts may vary at times due to the seasonal nature of the position. Overtime will be required as needed for fire operations. This position requires travel.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Six months of experience in entry-level fire prevention, detection, or suppression work; or Six months of unskilled experience in construction; equipment operations; or equipment, automotive, grounds, or facility maintenance work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
All employees must complete the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) training within six months from the date of hire. All employees must complete the NWCG Wildland Fire Observations and Origin Scene Protection for First Responders (FI-110) training within six months from the date of hire. All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
