- Full-time Amelia County Fire & EMS is seeking motivated, dependable, and community-focused individuals to join our team as Firefighter/EMTs .
This position provides fire suppression, emergency medical care, rescue services, and other emergency response support throughout Amelia County. Firefighter/EMTs work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to public service are essential. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responding to structure fires, vehicle fires, motor vehicle crashes, hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies, and other emergency calls Providing emergency medical care within the Virginia EMT-Basic scope of practice Conducting patient assessments and providing airway management, oxygen therapy, CPR, and defibrillation Assisting Advanced Life Support providers with patient care Safely operating emergency vehicles and transporting patients to appropriate medical facilities Performing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency scene operations Operating and maintaining fire and EMS apparatus, tools, and equipment Completing accurate patient care reports, incident reports, and other required documentation Conducting daily and monthly inspections of apparatus, equipment, and supplies Assisting with inventory management, supply ordering, and fleet maintenance coordination Participating in departmental training, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities Supporting community outreach, fire prevention, and public safety education programs Performing other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Applicants must: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent Be at least 21 years of age Possess a valid Virginia driver's license, or be able to obtain one, with an acceptable driving record Hold a current Virginia EMT-Basic certification Hold current CPR certification for Healthcare Providers Hold NIMS 700 and 800 certifications Hold ICS 100 and 200 certifications Required Fire and Emergency Services Certifications Firefighter I Firefighter II Hazardous Materials Awareness Hazardous Materials Operations Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, Class III Additional Certifications The following certifications must be held at the time of hire or obtained within one year of employment: Basic Pump Operator Rural Water Operations Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Successful candidates should demonstrate: Strong communication and teamwork skills The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities Dependability, flexibility, and a positive attitude The ability to follow established policies, procedures, and medical protocols The physical ability to perform firefighting and emergency medical duties The ability to work in extreme temperatures, hazardous environments, confined spaces, and elevated locations Work Schedule 24-hour shifts Schedule may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergency call-back assignments Benefits Benefits available to eligible employees may include: Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Health Savings Account Life insurance Paid time off Retirement plan How to Apply The Amelia County Employment Application is available online at www.ameliacova.com .
