This job is generally fast paced, never boring and requires someone with the ability to strategize and solve problems. It's an office job that isn't exclusively at a desk. The duties of a marine service writer are to provide excellent customer service as it relates to the entire repair process of a boat/motor/trailer. This will include communicating to customers and will require the ability to relay complex information in such a way it is easily understood. Handling unsatisfied customers is sometimes necessary and requires someone who can empathize with the customer but can also strategize to how to make sure the equitable solutions are possible. Requires communicating with parts department, marine technicians, freight and shipping companies, manufacturers and sublet laborers to accomplish the task required to repair a consumer's boat/engine/trailer. Scheduling appointments, maintaining customer records and provide updates to customers and manufacturers concerning their product repairs. Obtaining or supervise the obtaining of required information to properly file warranty claims. Filing warranty claims. --- Skills that will be a benefit to this position: 1. Personal organization and the ability to do serious multi-tasking. (This is required and people who have difficulties in this do not need to apply.) 2. Teamwork mentality. This job requires relying on a team and supporting each other in order to accomplish the goal of customer satisfaction. It also means being dependable so that the team can rely on you. 3. A strong understanding of mechanics or boats or trailers will be a great starting point but if not the ability to learn over time will be required. Basic engine knowledge, basic boat knowledge, depth finder/tech knowledge, electrical knowledge, trailer knowledge. Basic or intuitive understanding of physics and math are a boon to this position but the heart of the job generally knowing how to help the customer. 4. Advanced computer and data entry skills will also be needed. They can be learned over time but a minimum degree of knowledge to start with is a must.
Physical requirements:
The ability to stand and lift up to 25 lbs. ( This is not a job were one will sit at a desk the entire day.) Walking on gravel and concrete. Climbing in and out of boats will be necessary. The office is climate controlled but the rest of the property isn't. Getting dirty or wet can sometimes happen though not normally. Pay Starting pay will depend on what skills are brought to the table at the point of hire. Assessments of skills will be done periodically and raises given accordingly. Overtime is mandatory during the summer months. Seasonal Store hours are Monday- Saturday 8 am to 5 pm. Off season store hours (Aug-Feb) are Tuesday- Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday's 8-noon.
