At Safe Embrace, we are committed to ending the cycle of domestic and sexual violence with innovative prevention and intervention services. Safe Embrace operates the most inclusive safe house in the Reno-Sparks area, but we are so much more than that. Whether it's emergency shelter, legal advocacy, housing assistance or general support, we are here to walk victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking through any step of the process of getting safe and becoming a survivor. Here is an overview of our programs:

CRISIS INTERVENTION

Safe Embrace advocates are here to help and provide support. We maintain an emergency hotline for survivors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To access Safe Embrace services, our advocates will conduct an advocacy through the crisis line. Walk-ins are also welcomed and encouraged. During this time, we can assess any immediate needs of the survivor. When available, Safe Embrace can provide clothing, food, and limited transportation assistance. Every situation is unique and as a result, survivors may have varying needs. In the event we are unable to fulfill a need we may refer the survivor to another agency for that resource.

EMERGENCY SHELTER

Our shelter is an up to 90-day program. During this time, residents will receive support through weekly case management, educational groups, resources, and referrals. The educational groups offered at shelter include topics related to domestic violence, parenting, sexual violence, life skills and more. Our shelter advocates specialize in their roles and are passionate about helping others. Our advocate roles are child and family advocate, sexual violence advocate, and domestic violence advocate. There is a Kids Klub where children can play with toys, do arts and crafts, and complete homework with the assistance of our Kids Klub attendant. There is also a playground. Other services offered at the shelter include a pet kennel and a dog run area - we accept most animals. There is a fitness room for adults to utilize, a gardening area, a boutique with a vanity, and a self-care room to decompress.

HOUSING PROGRAMS

Safe Embrace offers two housing programs that provide rental assistance to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence. The mission of both housing programs is to assist survivors to become economically self-sufficient, achieve their personal goals, and acquire and maintain permanent housing. We strive to meet this mission by providing a variety of practical and emotional supports with rental assistance. Housing advocates complete advocacies to determine qualifications for each program to best assist the survivor. These are survivor centered programs where advocates work with survivors during case management on goals they wish to accomplish. Information and education are provided through a safe environment, one on one or in a group setting with resources to help meet survivor's needs.

LEGAL ADVOCACY

Our bilingual legal advocates can assist victims with navigating the difficult court process. A legal advocate gives support, offers information, and referrals. We are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice. We can assist with filing temporary protective order applications, victims of crime applications, court accompaniment for emotional support, and lease termination. Safe Embrace also offers a free legal clinic once a month facilitated by our legal advocates and hosted by a volunteer Family Law attorney.

OUTREACH

Safe Embrace is committed to breaking the cycle of violence through intervention and prevention measures. Part of our efforts include outreach in the Washoe County community. Our advocates facilitate healthy relationship and domestic violence education support groups with community partnerships. This includes our support group "From Shadows to Sunlight" held at Sparks Christian Fellowship every Tuesday at 7:00 PM. This group is open to everyone in the community. Safe Embrace also participates in tabling events around the Reno and Sparks area to raise awareness regarding domestic and sexual violence issues. Education is an instrumental part of awareness and ending the cycle of abuse. Safe Embrace provides presentations to local businesses, colleges, schools, and other community members about the complex issues of domestic violence.

Program Director Job Description :

The Legal Advocate is a member of the Crisis Response and Intervention team. This position provides advocacy (direct client services), support, and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The Legal Advocate is also responsible for providing supportive legal services, including assisting victims with completing and filing Protective Orders and providing Court Accompaniment. The Legal Advocate will work at the Protection Order Help Center four days, 32 hours out of the week and will attend the Legal EPO Clinic at Northern Nevada Legal Aid every Wednesday . This position requires travel between three sites, and primarily will be located within the Second Judicial District Court Protection Order Help Center office. The Legal Advocate is not a lawyer and does not give legal advice. Duties and responsibilities :

Advocacy Responsibilities :

• Assist and advocate for victims in filing protective orders.
• Assist victims with navigating the court system (i.e., understanding the language used in legal documents).
• Accompany victims in court proceedings.
• Assist in filing for crime victim's compensation and victim impact statements when necessary.
• Provide information and referrals about legal resources.
• Offer survivors emotional support and information about community resources and services (including employment, housing, shelter services, health care, victim compensation, etc.)
• Attend and co-facilitate monthly legal clinics (these occur outside of regular office hours, evenings)
• Provide case management and crisis intervention services to shelter residents and transitional housing clients when legal advocacy is needed.

Outreach Responsibilities:

• Identify underserved populations of victims and those most likely at risk in the community and explore means of providing information.

Administrative Responsibilities :

• Maintain accurate and confidential case files.
• Do statistical data entry, complete routine paperwork, and produce small reports. Assists with compiling data and narratives for grant and board reports.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and training courses as requested.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, criminal justice, behavioral sciences, or a related field.
• Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Knowledge of the judicial system through prior work within the legal system.
• Pass a Federal & State criminal background check.
• Pass a comprehensive drug screen.
• Provide at least three recent professional references that speak to competency, honesty & reliability.
• Demonstrate a passion for helping others (must be evident from previous work and volunteer experience).
• Be able to communicate effectively and professionally, even when under stress. Both orally and in writing.
• Be computer literate and able to use standard office equipment and software, including copy machines, fax machines, email, MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel), shared network drives, etc.
• Possess the ability to manage stress in a crisis environment.
• Possess the ability to set boundaries and maintain ethical relationships.
• Be able to work independently with little supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

• In-depth understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal violence.
• Experience with dual-use shelter programs (domestic violence & sexual assault), homeless shelters, substance abuse programs, and social services programs.
