Job Description
Job Summary The Police Chief serves as the highest-ranking law enforcement officer within the department, responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing all police operations to ensure the safety and security of the community. This dynamic role requires strategic leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to community engagement. The right candidate must have the ability to balance law enforcement with small town life. The Police Chief will develop policies, supervise personnel, coordinate with other agencies, and uphold the highest standards of law enforcement professionalism. A proactive approach to crime prevention, community relations, and departmental integrity is essential to succeed in this vital leadership position. Duties Provide visionary leadership by setting departmental goals aligned with community needs and law enforcement best practices Oversee daily police operations, including patrols, investigations, traffic enforcement, and special units Develop and implement policies that adhere to legal standards such as procedural law, evidence law, criminal law, and local ordinances Supervise recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and professional development of department personnel Coordinate with local community groups, and other agencies to foster positive relationships and collaborative crime prevention efforts Ensure compliance with all laws related to firearms handling in law enforcement, search and seizure procedures, use of force protocols, and immigration laws when applicable Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively while maintaining high operational standards Conduct criminal investigations, oversee arrest procedures, and ensure proper documentation through detailed report writing Promote departmental transparency by maintaining accurate records and facilitating public communication about safety initiatives Lead crisis management efforts including conflict resolution, first aid response protocols such as CPR and first aid training, and emergency response coordination Experience Extensive law enforcement experience with a proven track record in criminal investigation, patrol operations, or specialized units Demonstrated leadership in managing diverse teams within a law enforcement or military environment In-depth knowledge of traffic laws, procedural law, criminal procedure, evidence law, search and seizure law, animal handling (if applicable), loss prevention strategies, security protocols, and local ordinances Proficiency in report writing with attention to detail for legal proceedings and departmental records Physical conditioning suitable for demanding duties including driving standard passenger cars and engaging in physical confrontations when necessary Training or certification in CPR and first aid protocols; additional certifications such as use of force training or firearms handling are highly desirable Experience working within legal frameworks related to criminal law experience or immigration law is advantageous Strong conflict management skills coupled with effective communication abilities to handle sensitive situations professionally Join us as a Police Chief to lead a dedicated team committed to safeguarding our community through integrity, innovation, and unwavering service.
