Responsibilities A Police Lieutenant directly supervises subordinate sworn and civilian police employees and carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND 5 years of accredited service with the Dayton Police Department, in which 2 years MUST be in the rank of Police Sergeant immediately prior to the date of this promotional examination. Certifications Must be OPOTA certified at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment. License Requirements Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment. General Requirements Applicants wishing to receive educational credit must provide documentation of their education to the Director and Chief of Police or their designee by the examination date, October 1, 2026. Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. Promotional Qualifications Must currently hold the rank of Police Sergeant with the Dayton Police Department. Must have 2 years of consecutive service in the rank of Police Sergeant immediately prior to the date of this promotional examination. Must have 5 years of accredited service in the Dayton Police Department as of the examination date. Notes Examination dates and times are subject to change.
