HIRING PROCESS
(Basic requirements to qualify for licensure as a Telecommunicator in Texas) Citizen of the United States of America.
Earned a high school diploma or a GED.
Have never been convicted, pled guilty, nor have been on court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony.
During the last 10 years, have not been convicted, pled guilty, been on community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other state, or while serving in the military.
Have never had a military court martial that resulted in a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License at the time of hiring for the position.
Applicant must pass a state mandated physical, drug test and psychological evaluation at no charge to the applicant before being hired.
REQUIRED DUTIES
Answer and handle 911 calls for service (emergency and non-emergency).
Answer and direct telephone calls to the proper person on the (non-emergency lines) telephone lines of the Leon County Sheriffs Office.
Be able to communicate over the radio, to dispatch law enforcement officers, emergency medical services, and volunteer fire departments of/or in Leon County, Texas.
Be a certified telecommunications operator or have the ability to become a certified telecommunications operator by attending schools or by taking online courses.
You will have to send and process messages over Texas Law Enforcement Network, by confirming and removing wanted persons, stolen vehicles, articles, and administrative messages.
Be a licensed jailer or could become a licensed jailer by attending schools or by taking online courses. You will monitor the jail, jail intercom, open and close security doors, monitor the security of the jail thru closed circuit television.
Monitor and log weather conditions for Leon County for National Weather Service.
