POLICE CHIEF

City of Sansom Park, Texas Salary:

$125,000 annually The City of Sansom Park is seeking an experienced, people-focused law enforcement leader to serve as its next Police Chief. Located just six miles from downtown Fort Worth, Sansom Park is a community of approximately 5,400 residents that combines convenient access to the Dallas-Fort Worth region with the personal connections of a small city. Residents value responsive public safety services and a Police Department whose officers know the community they serve.

Qualifications:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Police Chief provides executive leadership and direction for all operations of the Sansom Park Police Department. The Chief is responsible for personnel management, organizational development, budgeting, policy, compliance, risk management, strategic planning, community engagement, and the effective delivery of police services. The Chief will work closely with City leadership and other departments, provide professional guidance on public safety matters, and maintain strong relationships with residents and community partners. Because Sansom Park is a small city, the Chief must also understand day-to-day police operations and remain willing and able to provide field support when needed. The department has 14 authorized sworn positions and 1.5 civilian FTEs. It is accredited through the Texas Police Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program and operates a Drone as First Responder program and a dual-purpose K9 unit.

LEADERSHIP PROFILE

Sansom Park is looking for a Chief who leads with integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and clear communication. The ideal candidate will be visible, approachable, and willing to listen while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and making fair, consistent decisions. The next Chief should be able to strengthen morale, establish clear expectations, address performance directly, and develop supervisors and future leaders. The successful candidate will value the experience and abilities of existing employees while providing the direction, administrative leadership, and accountability the department needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

At least 15 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience.

At least three years of law enforcement supervisory experience.

At least two years of experience in a police administration role.

Current TCOLE peace officer license and eligibility for appointment.

Advanced Peace Officer Proficiency Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Broad knowledge of modern policing, personnel management, police administration, criminal investigations, and emergency response.

Ability to lead in a small-agency environment, including responsibility for personnel and administrative functions, while remaining willing and able to provide operational assistance and field support when circumstances require.

Valid driver s license and ability to satisfy all City and TCOLE preemployment requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least five years of experience in the administration of a police department, including service as an Assistant Chief or Chief of Police.

Master Peace Officer Proficiency Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Completion of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College or a comparable command college or executive leadership program.

Bachelor s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Experience with municipal budgeting, strategic planning, personnel management, policy development, technology, criminal investigations, emergency management, and interagency operations.

Experience with TPCA Best Practices Accreditation.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The position offers an annual salary of $125,000.
