Job Description

Job Summary Under the immediate supervision of the Chief of Police, the employee performs law enforcement activities on behalf of the Lake View Police Department; performs patrol duties for assigned area; processes civil and criminal papers in accordance with established procedures; provides security for court proceedings, and for special events held within Lake View; and performs maintenance checks on equipment prior to each shift. The employee prepares, documents, and submits accurate reports. The employee ensures equipment and uniforms are always maintained and serviceable. The employee also provides traffic control and issues citations as needed. Work is usually performed in accordance with well-defined procedures. This is an entry-level job in the law enforcement job classification. This job classification is safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and random drug screens. All applicants must complete a Lake View Police Department application. These are available at the Lake View Police Department Monday
  • Thursday 9 am
  • 4 pm (closed 12 pm
  • 1 pm for lunch).
Minimum Qualifications 1. Possess a high school diploma or GED. 2. Must be at least twenty-one years of age. 3. Must be able to obtain and maintain certification as required by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training (APOST) Commission. 4. Possess a current and valid driver's license. 5. Must be a U.S. citizen. 6. Ability to successfully pass a background check. 7. Ability to participate in continuing educational activities to acquire and maintain credentials. 8. Ability to wear appropriate uniforms and safety equipment. 9. Ability to work nonstandard hours and emergency call-backs. 10. Ability to travel as required. 11. Must pass physical medical exam and psychological evaluations. 12. APOST certified is preferred. If not APOST certified, you must be able to pass the following: Physical medical exam and psychological evaluations (BAT) Basic Ability Test (PAT) physical agility test Scale a 6' fence. Drag a 165 lb. dummy 5 yards. Walk a balance beam 5 yards. Crawl through a 2' x 2'' window opening. Run 1 ½ miles (within 15 min and 28 secs) Push a car 15ft. 22
