Towson University Police is accepting applications for a University Police 1 position. This is an entry level Police Officer position in which this classification learns to perform the duties of a Police Officer and, once certified through on-the-job training, performs those duties. Responsibilities and Duties Enforces the laws of the state of Maryland through patrolling designated areas by vehicle and foot to maintain a visible presence to deter crime, detecting violations of laws and ordinances, and identifying wanted vehicles, persons and unusual conditions Responds to calls for assistance and emergencies Apprehends and arrests violators when probable cause exists Interacts and establishes rapport with campus community Testifies in court cases as necessary Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informants and by collecting, preserving and processing evidence Performs searches; conducts surveillance; responds to calls for service, evaluate situations and determines the appropriate course of action Assists in crowd control; respond to emergency situations; administers emergency medical aid as a certified "First responder" Qualifications and Skills High School Diploma or GED. Valid Driver's License Class C or equivalent. Must be 21 to enter academy. Working knowledge of citizens and responsibilities; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to operate two way radios and telephones in a variety of environments; to show sensitivity in interactions with a diverse population; to comprehend laws, ordinances, rule and regulations, to sit, stand, drive, walk, climb and run for sustained period of times; to lift, drag and carry heavy objects; to enter and exit vehicles frequently and quickly; to operate emergency vehicles under all conditions; to meet Maryland Police Training Commission and Institutional proficiency requirements in the care and use of firearms; to work and wear personal protective equipment. personnel and candidates will be required to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays. Salary and Benefits Minimum starting salary at $63,848 annually, as shown in the UPO pay scale found here, and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and This position will be open for a minimum of 14 days.
