$27.00 per hour for former law enforcement, corrections, and special police officers. $24.50 per hour for former military and security officers until successful completion of Special Police Officer academy.

[email protected]Chesapeake College Department of Public Safety seeks to fill the part-time position of Public Safety Officer, an important role which contributes to the overall strategic success of the college. The successful candidate will be responsible for patrolling the Wye Mills campus and the Cambridge Center by vehicle, bicycle, or foot; be a first responder to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations; be responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigations, unlock and secure buildings, participate in various safety drills, provide escorts, deliver crime prevention education and community-oriented public safety programming.
A High school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Must be able to meet State of Maryland qualifications to receive Special Police Officer commission, and Handgun Carry Permit. Successful completion of a Police, Corrections academy, or a Special Police Officer academy and minimum of three years of related experience in policing or corrections is strongly preferred. Honorably discharged members of the military and security officers with a minimum of three years of related experience are encouraged to apply and will be eligible for the increased rate of pay upon successful completion of the Special Police Officer academy.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality; project a positive image; work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays; have a valid driver's license along with a good driving record; walk or stand for long periods of time; ability to work outdoors; and pass a drug screening test and background investigation. In addition, knowledge of Maryland laws and rules, motor vehicle operations, personal conduct for students, employees, and visitors, and an understanding of modern policing practices is required. Must be able to support and promote the mission of Chesapeake College.
