EHRA Primary Purpose of Position This position performs law enforcement work at a University campus or other State facility. With full powers of arrest, positions enforce the laws of the State and the United States Government. Positions have law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Work involves patrolling an assigned area for response to complaints or calls and for detection of violations in the enforcement of State laws and applicable regulations. Duties include apprehending observed violators committing offenses, investigating violations or complaints in order to assess and handle cases, collection and preservation of evidence and the chain of custody, testifying in court proceedings and performing related work. Primary Function of Organizational Unit The primary mission of Police and Public Safety is to provide a safe and secure environment supporting the University's pursuit of research and academic excellence. Police Officer I:
A High School diploma or GED. At least probationary certification as a commissioned LEO in the State of North Carolina. In the event the agency should elect a commissioned LEO who is certified other than by the State of North Carolina, final employment is contingent on attaining North Carolina LEO certification within a period specified in the individual's letter of appointment. All new LEO employment is also contingent on successful completion of the agency's field training program for newly appointed campus police officers. Applicants with two years of greater of documented experience as sworn campus, local, state, or federal law enforcement officer may be eligible for appointment at a higher entry rank and level at the hiring agency's discretion as follows
Police Officer II:
2 years of prior experience as a sworn enforcement officer
    Police Officer III:
    4 years of prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer
      Master Police Officer I:
      6 years of prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer (a graduate or Juris Doctor degree reduces the minimum experience requirement by 1 year).
        Master Police Officer II:
        3 years of experience as a Master Police Officer or equivalent within an outside law enforcement agency (equivalent experience at a higher sworn supervisory rank will also be accepted).
          Master Police Officer III:
          6 years of experience as a Master Police Officer or equivalent within an outside law enforcement agency (equivalent experience at a higher sworn supervisory rank will also be accepted). On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site) Recruitment Salary Range $57,000
