The Town of Topsail Beach is seeking a professional, dependable Police Officer to join our community-oriented Police Department. Officers serve residents, visitors, businesses, and Town departments while providing professional and responsive law enforcement services.
Position Summary Responsibilities include:
Patrolling and responding to calls for service. Preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activity. Enforcing state laws, Town ordinances, traffic, and parking regulations. Investigating crashes, incidents, and complaints. Making arrests and conducting preliminary investigations. Collecting and preserving evidence. Preparing accurate reports and providing court testimony. Assisting with emergencies, special events, storms, and community incidents. Maintaining a visible, professional presence throughout the Town. Officers must demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, effective communication, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in stressful situations. Work may include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, seasonal traffic, beach and waterfront areas, severe weather, and other conditions common to a coastal community. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The successful candidate should have knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, law enforcement practices, investigations, evidence handling, and modern law enforcement technology. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, prepare clear reports, safely use law enforcement equipment, de-escalate conflicts, exercise sound judgment, and maintain positive relationships with the public and coworkers. Education & Experience High school graduation and completion of basic law enforcement training, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Previous municipal or coastal law enforcement experience is preferred but not required.
