Description
The City of Fallon is seeking qualified individuals for the lateral position of Police Officer. The City of Fallon, known as "The Oasis of Nevada", is a unique city in Northern Nevada of approximately 9,123 residents, and covers 4 square miles. The City offers a safe, friendly and affordable community, dedicated to economic improvement, historical preservation, cultural diversity, education and the general well-being of its citizens and businesses. Fallon is only 60 minutes from Reno/Sparks and is the perfect home for people that enjoy the outdoors, a close-knit community, and a year-round calendar of special events. Salary range:
Grade O-$30.09 to 36.66 per hour (placement within range depends on qualifications and experience)
Signing bonus: The City is offering a signing bonus of $50,000 paid over 5 years for eligible lateral transfers
Benefits include:
- 100% employer paid retirement in the Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada (the City contributes 58.75% of an eligible Police Member's salary for retirement)
- The City offers a "Cafeteria" health plan to full-time employees, which allows employees to pick and choose the best health plan for them and their family. The City offers three health plans:
- A PPO plan with a $1000 deductible
- An HMO plan with a $3000 deductible which the City contributes $330 monthly toward dependent coverage
- A High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a $4,000 deductible and a Health Savings Account (HSA), to which the City contributes $364 per month
In addition, the City also provides a dental plan, a vision plan and life insurance. The City currently contributes 100% of the employee premiums for all plans. Employees who elect dependent coverage pay 100% of the dependent premiums - employees can elect to have those premiums deducted in pre-tax dollars. The City also provides Vacation Leave, Sick Leave and paid Holidays. Vacation begins at 8 hours per month and increases at 5, 10, 15 and 25 years of service, up to a maximum of 240 hours per year. Sick Leave is accrued at 8 hours per month. There are 12 paid holidays per calendar year. Other benefits include annual uniform allowance, educational assistance and longevity pay.
Minimum eligibility requirements:

Experience required:
Applicants must possess prior full-time sworn law enforcement experience commensurate with the duties of a patrol officer with a full-service law enforcement agency. Applicants must have successfully completed a recognized law enforcement academy, field training program, and probationary period. Must possess a Nevada POST Category I Basic Certificate or be eligible for Nevada POST Category I certification through reciprocity. (For applicants outside Nevada, you can verify reciprocity at )
Probationary period: This position has a twelve-month probationary period for new employees.
Work schedule:
The successful applicants must be willing to work varying schedules, including holidays and weekends and overtime.
Residency requirement:
Successful applicants must reside within 7 miles of City Hall, and the City is willing to reimburse for reasonable moving expenses.
