The South Jordan Police Department is seeking qualified Lateral Police Officers who are committed to public safety, professional service, and building strong relationships within the community. Qualified lateral officers may be eligible for a $5,000 hiring incentive , year-for-year vacation accrual credit , and placement within the City's nine-year Police Officer Step Plan , providing an opportunity to recognize your prior law enforcement experience as you continue your career with South Jordan. Lateral Officer Eligibility To be considered as a lateral applicant, you must: Hold an active Utah POST certification or an equivalent out-of-state law enforcement certification and successfully complete the Utah POST waiver process. Have at least 12 months of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer . Be in good standing with your current or most recent law enforcement agency. Have a high school diploma or GED. Possess a valid Utah Class D Driver License as required by the position. Meet the City's required medical and physical fitness standards. Reside within 40 miles of the South Jordan Public Safety Building, located at 10655 South Redwood Road, South Jordan, Utah. What You'll Do As a South Jordan Police Officer, you will: Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle, or foot to prevent and respond to criminal activity. Respond to emergency calls, conduct preliminary investigations, and make arrests when appropriate. Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, and assist with accident investigations. Prepare reports and maintain accurate records in the police records management system. Serve legal documents and testify in court. Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies and community partners. Maintain department-issued firearms, vehicles, and specialized equipment. Participate in community outreach and build positive relationships with residents. Perform other law enforcement duties consistent with departmental policies and applicable laws. Proficiency in operating police vehicles, firearms, and other specialized equipment. The ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions during emergencies.
