The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Police Officer in the Campus Police Department. The Police Officer is responsible for helping maintain a safe and secure campus environment. Primary duties include patrolling campus grounds and buildings, responding to calls for service and community concerns, enforcing federal, state, and college laws and regulations, and providing security at campus events, including social functions and athletic competitions. Minimum Requirements Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience Working knowledge of the Virginia Code. Ability to obtain authorization to carry a firearm. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is preferred. Licensure/Certification Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Officer certification is preferred. Compensation Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Physical Demands This position requires the ability to stand and sit for extended periods; walk and drive regularly; use both hands for routine and emergency tasks; bend, stoop, twist, and climb stairs and ladders; and lift or move heavy objects as needed to perform essential job functions. Additional Requirements Background checks, physicals, and drug testing will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. Salary $46,000 - $52,000; depending on qualifications and experience.
