JOIN THE CITY OF ELKINS POLICE DEPARTMENT
Testing Date:
Saturday, October 17, 2026 (Physical Fitness Test, Written Test, and Interviews) The City of Elkins Police Department is actively recruiting new officers to help fulfill its mission of providing public safety and maintaining order—while upholding the U.S. Constitution and the West Virginia Constitution. We encourage all interested individuals to submit a full application to be considered for the upcoming Police Civil Service Testing , whether you are a certified officer or not.
RECRUITMENT INCENTIVES - EARN UP TO
$20,000!
For WV Certified Officers:
$15,000 incentive paid upon hiring $5,000 additional incentive after two years of satisfactory service
For Uncertified Candidates:
$3,000 incentive upon successful completion of the WV Law Enforcement Academy and certification $1,500 additional incentive after two years of satisfactory service
Returning Elkins Officers:
For eligible reinstated officers, the City will cover any outstanding contractual obligations owed to another police department.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Enforce city, county, and state laws; initiate investigations Patrol and respond to calls to protect life and property Issue citations, make arrests, and direct traffic Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services Operate tactical equipment; conduct accident investigations Maintain detailed reports and records Engage in public hearings, media events, and community outreach Support departmental policies, budget, and operations Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
