Campus Police Officer Senior University Police Department West Virginia State University Founded in 1891, West Virginia State University (WVSU) is a public-land grant institution, which was originally founded as a historically black university, but which has evolved into a fully accessible, diverse, and multi-generational institution serving approximately 2,600 students. Position Description The Campus Police Officer Senior serves as a lead law enforcement officer within the University Police Department, responsible for protecting the safety and security of the university community while providing guidance and leadership to other officers. This position requires significant law enforcement experience and demonstrated leadership ability. The Senior Officer acts as a mentor to junior officers, assists with training and operational coordination, and supports the Chief of Public Safety in maintaining effective law enforcement and community policing services on campus. This position may serve as a shift lead or senior field officer and operates with a high degree of independence and professional judgment. Key Responsibilities for the Campus Police Officer Senior

• Perform all duties of a Campus Police Officer, including patrol, law enforcement, and emergency response
• Serve as a lead officer during assigned shifts, assisting in coordinating field operations
• Provide guidance, mentoring, and informal supervision to junior officers
• Assist with training, onboarding, and field instruction
• Support investigations and ensure proper documentation and evidence handling
• Assist with planning and security for campus events and special operations

• Respond to complex or sensitive incidents requiring experienced law enforcement judgment
• Assist the Chief of Public Safety with operational coordination when needed
• Perform other duties as assigned Requirements for the Campus Police Officer Senior
• Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred
• Minimum of 10 years of sworn law enforcement experience
• Minimum of 3 years of supervisory, lead officer, or specialized unit experience (such as Sergeant, Corporal, Field Training Officer, Detective, Training Officer, or similar leadership role)
• Current West Virginia Law Enforcement Certification, or ability to be recertified
• Valid West Virginia Driver's License
• Ability to pass background investigation and required departmental screenings
• Must establish residency within one hour of WVSU within 90 days of hire Salary Statement $45, 000 to $50, 000.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
