Job Summary:
(Hybrid) Supervise and handle more complex product liability (PL) litigation and claims under minimal supervision. Provide complex liability assessment and recommendations to clients in order to assure a high quality of claim handling and litigation supervision .
Essential Job Functions:
Supervise and handle more complex Product Liability litigation and claims by conducting investigation and defense strategy and providing client reports with analysis and advice on further handling. Identify proper policy and determine coverage. Provide more sophisticated and independent instruction to outside defense counsel, claim agents, investigators, experts. Evaluate liability and damages to determine proper reserves, develop defense strategy and negotiate settlements. Attend mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, small claim hearings, depositions, inspections, legal engineering conferences, trials. Some travel required. Provide recommendations, suggestions, and opinions regarding legal matters. Analyze and draft various legal documents, releases and contracts. Handle Non-Marine claims other than PL. Conduct or participate in client/claim review meetings. Conduct seminars for clients and staff on important claims technical and legal issues. Update and revise internal manuals, forms and procedures. Maintain proper documentation in file. Obtain and record accurate and complete data. Assist Manager in training and developing technical staff. Mentor staff as assigned. Responsible for complying with proper internal controls as necessary to conduct job functions and/or carry out responsibilities and/or administrative activities at Company.
Qualifications:
J.D. or LLB Degree, and admitted to the Bar Minimum five years of tort experience Product liability defense experience preferred Advanced knowledge of U.S. civil procedure and legal system Understanding of advanced concepts of technical and engineering matters Good oral and written communication skills Knowledge of Microsoft Applications, Word, Excel International work experience and foreign languages preferred Ability to work as a team member
