Connecticut Legal Services (CLS) is hiring an attorney focusing on Elder and Consumer Law for its Willimantic office. CLS seeks applicants who will use their legal training to improve the lives of low-income people and further CLS' holistic, client-centered mission. CLS lawyers represent families and individuals in administrative hearings and in state and federal courts, as well as advocating in various settings for changes in laws and systems to benefit low-income communities CLS' elder law lawyers in Willimantic provide general legal services to seniors in Connecticut's four eastern counties, helping them remain in their homes, assert their rights, access public programs, and live healthy, independent lives. The position offers the opportunity to address unique geographic and demographic challenges. Lawyers are encouraged to conduct outreach and collaborate with community partners to identify local needs and issues. Willimantic is a welcoming, close-knit community at the heart of eastern Connecticut's civil services, known for its rural character. CLS promotes teamwork, encouraging attorneys to collaborate with other legal services lawyers and local agencies to address complex or systemic issues. Responsibilities include providing legal advice and representation to individuals and families.
Attorneys will:
maintain an active caseload of representation and advice cases which will require regular court appearances and participation in administrative hearings, as appropriate; conduct community outreach and coordinate with social service agencies working with our clients; and help identify larger trends and issues for our clients, while working with the Elder Law Unit to develop strategies to respond to those trends and issues.

Qualifications :
Deep and demonstrated commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income, vulnerable, and marginalized communities; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to write persuasively and clearly and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations; Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with colleagues and to work independently when necessary; Connecticut bar admission; Elder law and/or Consumer law experience is preferred.
Compensation :
Salary $70,000 - $135,782, depending on experience; excellent health, vacation/leave, and other benefits.
