Job Description

Assistant General Counsel Department:
Office of General Counsel•605000 Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be admitted to the North Carolina bar or be admitted to the bar of another state and prepared to seek immediate admission in North Carolina within one year of the date of employment. License/Certification Required North Carolina State Bar membership in good standing, or licensure in good standing in another state on the date of initial employment and licensure to practice law in North Carolina within one year following initial employment date pursuant to The University of North Carolina Policy Manual, section 200.5. Preferred Qualifications Focused experience in one or more of the following areas is also preferred: IT/ITS-related services; Contract review and drafting (particularly for higher education or governmental clients); Research, Intellectual Property, Sponsored Programs, and Regulatory Compliance Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant General Counsel must demonstrate: high ethical standards, including a strong work ethic, honesty, and integrity; ability to identify and resolve legal issues; commitment to the support and fulfillment of the university's mission; ability to employ excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; research and analytical skills; reasoned judgment; ability to prioritize tasks and organize work; ability to supervise staff in the fulfillment of the office mission; ability to combine legal considerations with program and policy objectives in the development of practical solutions that meet client needs; word processing and related skills to create, edit, and publish legal memoranda, briefs, contracts, and other work products
Work Schedule/Hours:
Monday•Friday, 8:00 am•5:00pm. (may vary according to office commitments)
Suggested Salary Range:
$95,000•$107,120
