Full-Time Position Summary Big Dog Ranch Rescue is seeking a motivated and highly organized Legal, Policy & Government Affairs Assistant to support the organization's work in animal welfare law, legislation, federal policy, government relations, legal matters, and the management of Florida's Statewide Animal Cruelty Hotline. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about law, public policy, government affairs, and animal welfare who wants substantive, hands-on experience. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal, legislative, and policy research.
  • Assist with federal and state animal welfare legislation, including research, bill tracking, congressional outreach, and preparation of briefing materials.
  • Support engagement with federal agencies, elected officials, lobbyists, and other government partners.
  • Draft correspondence, policy summaries, meeting materials, and research memoranda.
  • Track legislative and federal policy developments and manage follow-up items.
  • Assist with the management of Florida's Statewide Animal Cruelty Hotline.
  • Review and route animal abuse complaints to the appropriate law enforcement.
  • Assist with other legal, policy, and government affairs projects as needed. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong interest in law, legislation, government affairs, public policy, and animal welfare.
  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Professional, proactive, and comfortable communicating with government officials and external stakeholders.
  • Legal, legislative, government, nonprofit, or advocacy experience is a plus but not required.
Pay:
$50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
