We are looking for a Bilingual Legal Assistant who will work primarily with our Family Law practice , while progressively developing experience in Immigration, Personal Injury, and Worker's Compensation. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to become an exceptional legal assistant, not simply process files. Become an Essential Part of the Legal Team Our paralegals and legal assistants play a critical role in moving cases forward. Your primary focus will be supporting our Maryland Family Law practice , working closely with attorneys on matters involving divorce, custody, child support, protective orders, and other family-law matters. You will help attorneys prepare cases, communicate with clients, manage discovery and evidence, prepare court filings, monitor deadlines, and organize cases for hearings and trials. As you become proficient in your primary responsibilities, we will also begin cross-training you in: Immigration Law Personal Injury Workers' Compensation Your foundation will be Family Law , with structured opportunities to expand your legal knowledge and become a more versatile and capable legal assistant over time. What You'll Do Family Law - Primary Practice Area You will spend the majority of your time supporting our Family Law team, including: Assist attorneys with divorce, custody, child support, protective order, and related family-law matters Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests, correspondence, and other legal documents Assist with interrogatories, requests for production, and discovery responses Gather, organize, and review financial records, communications, photographs, records, and other evidence Prepare exhibits, case chronologies, summaries, and hearing materials Maintain organized and accurate electronic case files Track court dates, discovery deadlines, filing deadlines, mediation, hearings, and other case milestones Communicate regularly with clients in both English and Spanish Conduct client interviews and obtain documents and information needed to move cases forward Coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, experts, interpreters, and other parties Assist attorneys in preparing clients and witnesses for depositions, hearings, mediation, and trial Support attorneys during hearing and trial preparation Identify missing information, approaching deadlines, and potential case-management problems before they become emergencies Take increasing ownership of assigned cases and responsibilities as your experience develops Cross-Training & Professional Development You will progressively gain experience supporting matters in our other practice areas.

This may include:

Immigration Preparing immigration applications and petitions Collecting supporting documentation and evidence Preparing declarations and case packages Assisting with USCIS and immigration court matters Learning immigration filing procedures and case timelines Personal Injury Collecting medical records, bills, and other damages documentation Communicating with medical providers Organizing treatment records and case evidence Assisting with demand packages and litigation preparation Tracking medical treatment, liens, and case milestones Workers' Compensation Collecting medical and employment documentation Coordinating with clients and medical providers Assisting with Commission filings and hearing preparation Organizing medical evidence and case timelines Cross-training will be progressive and based on your experience, performance, and development. Required Qualifications Fluent English and Spanish College, university, vocational, or comparable professional education Minimum one (1) year of experience in a law firm, legal services environment, or similar professional setting Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and case-management skills Strong proofreading and editing skills Demonstrated attention to detail Demonstrated respect for deadlines Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft 365 Ability and willingness to learn new software and technology Professional telephone and client communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to work in person at our Gaithersburg office Preferred Qualifications Experience in Family Law is strongly preferred. Additional experience in any of the following is a plus, but not required: Immigration Law Personal Injury Workers' Compensation Litigation support Discovery Legal drafting Client intake and case management MyCase or similar legal case-management software Degree related to legal studies is preferred but not required for an otherwise strong candidate. We are particularly interested in candidates who already have experience in Family Law but want the opportunity to broaden their legal experience over time.
